What You'll Be Doing

Stifel’s Public Finance Department is the investment banking division within the firm’s Municipal Securities Group. The Public Finance Department originates a range of financings within public and private markets and across public sector and private sector entities. Bankers gain exposure to a variety of infrastructure financing strategies, sectors and to investors in the public and private credit universe. In addition to investment banking, Stifel’s Municipal Securities Group includes institutional sales, trading and underwriting. Primary markets covered from the Los Angeles office include general state and local government, real estate development, transportation, utilities and project finance.

 

Under the direction of senior bankers, with a growing level of autonomy, Analysts provide general investment banking support and assist with pitchbooks, financing proposals and transaction execution. Analysts typically function in a team setting, alongside experienced junior bankers and senior team members. The ability to multi-task and communicate clearly are required skills. The desire to learn and willingness to work outside of normal business hours are also necessary.

 

Analysts participate in junior banker training sessions with colleagues from offices located throughout the country. Some travel is expected.

What We're Looking For

• Assist in the development of financing proposals and pitch materials
• Develop and refine financial models to support marketing efforts and transaction execution.
• Research capital needs and financial structures using a range of data and analytical tools.
• Research industry trends and work with colleagues to develop actionable strategies to be used by bankers across the country.
• Create client marketing and sales offering materials, attend client meetings, and act as a point of contact for the finance team throughout the financing process.
• Analyze capital structures of existing and prospective clients to identify opportunities.
• Quickly gain an understanding of markets and market participants, including public and private credit markets.

What You'll Bring

• Interest in infrastructure financing including some knowledge of the public sector and fixed income.
• Ability to multi-task, work independently and collaborate in teams.
• Working knowledge and/or an ability to quickly gain proficiency in a variety of web-based applications and specialized information systems, including Bloomberg, Capital IQ, Securities Data Corp, EMMA and DBC.
• Knowledge of finance and accounting principles and the primary differences between governmental and corporate financial statements.
• Ability to prepare and deliver clear, effective and professional presentations.
• Competence in clearly and effectively communicating in both oral and written formats; including technical writing.
• Extremely strong organizational skills required.

Education & Experience

• Minimum Required: Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Math, Economics, Public Policy or a related field with at least some coursework and/or internship experience supportive of proficiency with analytical skills.
• Preference For: Some work experience in a related public finance or fixed-income field.

Licenses & Credentials

• Minimum Required: Series 52, 63 and 50, or ability to obtain within 12 months from date of hire.

Systems & Technology

• High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Power Point and Excel. Ability to quickly learn third party applications.

Compensation Range

Salary: USD $85,000.00/Yr. - USD $90,000.00/Yr.

Actual salaries may vary, and may be based on several factors, including but not limited to each candidate’s qualifications, skills, and overall competencies for the position. The base salary is one component of Stifel’s overall compensation package for each individual employee.
