What You'll Be Doing

The position will support the taxable fixed income team based in Baltimore. The individual will conduct thorough credit research on current holdings, as well as evaluate issuers for future security selection. The candidate will be expected to provide written reports on trends in all sectors of the investment grade fixed income market, and provide ongoing surveillance and relative value recommendations accordingly. Communication with the firm’s other offices is expected. Must be team-oriented.

What We're Looking For

• When conducting fundamental credit research, emphasis is placed on primary contact and communication with companies, rating agencies and sell-side seeking out those with superior or improving competitive positions.
• The research process employs disciplined assessments of the entities’ strategy and execution, earning power, profitability trend, cash generation, capital management, and governance, consistent with the relevant metrics for that particular sector.
• Recommendations are based on bottom-up, fundamental research, oriented toward high-conviction, long-term decisions for client portfolios. A risk/reward valuation protocol is the underlying basis of all recommendations.
• Research and written reports on individual credits, sectors, or macro trends relevant to assigned areas of responsibility are to be communicated to the firm in a timely manner.
• Respond to requests for data, information and calls from internal and external
• clients. Some client and internal presentations are expected.
• Develop and maintain relationships with management of entities under coverage.
• Develop and maintain Responsible Investing (RI) contacts on the bond side. Work closely with 1919 Investment Counsel’s Responsible Investing group to support ongoing initiatives.
• Regular communication and meetings with portfolio managers in all offices is expected.
• Other duties as assigned, such as writing topical white papers or serving on various committees.

 

What You'll Bring

• Strong financial skills, including at least two years of analytical experience in the financial sector.
• Candidate must possess strong quantitative abilities, strategic perspective, and written/verbal communication skills.
• Collegiality, confidence, and proactivity are highly valued.

Education & Experience

• Minimum Required: Bachelor’s Degree in related field
• Minimum Required: 2-5 years of direct experience in primary research, preferably with an ability to provide idea generation.

Licenses & Credentials

• Minimum Required: None
• Preferred: CFA and/or MBA or committed to obtaining CFA

Systems & Technology

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
• Experience with Bloomberg and FactSet

Compensation Range

Salary: USD $90,000.00/Yr. - USD $125,000.00/Yr.

Actual salaries may vary, and may be based on several factors, including but not limited to each candidate’s qualifications, skills, and overall competencies for the position.
