What You'll Be Doing

The Deputy General Counsel, in a senior capacity, represents the Firm and affiliates in broad range of business issues. The Deputy General Counsel also assists with arbitration and other litigation. The Deputy General Counsel works with the General Counsel and the rest of the legal team to ensure that their organization complies with the law, guide corporate governance, provide legal representation when needed, and anything else that falls in their domain.

What We're Looking For

  • Advise management and the Firm's associates concerning business transactions, claim liability, and contractual issues.
  • Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations involving the Firm's businesses.
  • Analyze risks associated with a wide variety of claims including utilizing legal research resources.
  • Gather evidence to formulate defenses to potential claims.
  • Represent the Firm in court, arbitration, or before government and regulatory agencies as required.
  • Conduct legal research to assist in the Firm's business growth.
  • Assist in general corporate legal drafting and preparation.

What You'll Bring

  • Advanced knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process.
  • General knowledge of the financial service industry including Federal and State chartered banks, trust companies, and securities broker/dealers.
  • General knowledge of the products and services available in the investment industry as well as the methods, processes, and staff of Stifel.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously;

Education & Experience

  • Minimum Required: Bachelor's and JD degree
  • Minimum Required: 5-10 years' experience as in-house counsel or related private practice area

Licenses & Credentials

  • Minimum Required: Licensed to practice in MO, IL, and other states

Systems & Technology

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook

Compensation Range

Salary: USD $225,000.00/Yr. - USD $250,000.00/Yr.

Actual salaries may vary, and may be based on several factors, including but not limited to each candidate’s qualifications, skills, and overall competencies for the position.The base salary is one component of Stifel’s overall compensation package for each individual employee.
